| Posted : 07 Sep 2011 - 07:47 Post title : Rugby World Cup | | Although I am a ardent Rugby League fan there is an event kicking off in a few days time of that inferior code that has my interest.
Question is who will win?
My pick of teams that will be there in the shake up are:
The All Blacks are at home but choke on the big staage all too often. Though they did win it on home soil once before.
Australia beat the All Blacks recently and enter the competition in fine form and would love to beat their rivals on home soil.
England have underperformed over recent years but they have the players to beat anyone (and lose to anyone) .
South Africa play a brand of rugby that is ugly to watch, hard and can be highly effective.
France play with wonderful flair, are great to watch most of the time and will give anyone a game.
In the end the All Blacks will come out on top!
Hope it's worth watching.

Your descriptions are right on the button, sadly.
And yes, I particularly enjoy watching League, my father was an ardent fan of York; heart-breaking when they sold out the ground.
Mrs.Ted is the active supporter though; over the years a number of mates have offered to accompany her to matches (I know better), only to return with the same comment - "Never again". Not one mate has taken her twice. In the 36 years I have known her, I've taken her to matches 4 times, and if I never take her again it'll be too soon. We're talking pitch invasions, foul abuse of officials and opposing fans, ejection from stadium. I'm actually very proud of her Give her a team scarf and she becomes psychotic.
Your predictions are correct I believe and yes, it'll be great watching.

I was fortunate enough to be at the semi in 1999 when the French had em over. Remember All Black fans goading the French at half time waving Finals tickets in their faces - and also the same fans skulking out 5 minutes before the end as the French made one of the best comebacks I have ever seen.
Also managed to be in Paris and watch on TV in a Club Med place as the French did the mighty AB again in 2007 - unbelievable atmopsphere as I became an honorary Frenchman for the evening. Don't know if they can meet this year but I would like to see it as I think the weight of history would see the AB's off again.
My gut tells me the Aussi boys are going to sneak another this year

That is until the Aussies lose and then we could all see it coming.

I know the All Blacks (New Zealand) are even tougher SOB's. I know the POMs are a bunch of latte sipping , yoga practicing bunch of hairdressers , who have no chance The South Africans are just like the N Zedders . The question I want to know is........how much start do we give the yanks ?

Well I am not English but would like all of the teams from the British Isles to do well. Ireland and Wales are playing well with Scotland and England uder parr. England have the players but need to raise there game big time to get thriugh to the semi's. As for the latte sipping et al goes with the public schooling I'm afraid, that why I prefer the other code.
ANYWAY you may well face the Zedders in the quarters and that would make life interesting eh.
As for the Yanks, you'll beat them by at leasst 40 points - you'll need the bonus points.

Until we played France I thought this was going to be another World Cup of shame. Choking at the pinch. But now I think it will be our year. We took France apart and seriously who else can stop the Blacks? Maybe the Boks but Aussie is a No. Aussie has too many injuries and not the players to hold down our backs. It fills my heart with joy to see how the Blacks have been spinning the ball in these games. Untouchable when they throw it wide. And Carter to milk the penalties. How can we lose?

I think that summed England's effort up perfectly!
Congratulations to Wales who have performed well so far. Two excellent semi-finals next weekend.
However the best rugby on show this weekend was watched by 70,000 in Manchester when the Leeds Rhino's beat the Saints in the Grand Final. What a game!!
My tip remains the All Blacks but would like to see the young Welsh lads do it!

But I'll rise above it and say good luck to the welsh, bring it home to Great Britain!!!

All Blacks probably played their worst game in the last 7 years but had a convincing win over the Argies
Wallabies also had a shocker but played with the best defence I have seen, so next weeks game against the All Blacks will be a blinder.
